Azor, Assistant Director of the Stud Book welcomed these important guests and explained the work carried out at the PRE Stud Book. Likewise, they provided information about GO EQUIGENOM and the advantages this group will have for the breed throughout the world.

They also visited the molecular genetics laboratory. There, these institutional representatives saw the specialized equipment used. Likewise, they learned about the process implemented when analyzing of biological samples used to identify PRE Horses throughout the world. The procedures followed were explained, as well as the quality certifications that support this work.

GO EQUIGENOM

The group saw how GO EQUIGENOM activities—an ANCCE led project—are developing. The objective of this project is to develop an array that facilitates genomic selection in equines in general and more specifically, in PRE Horses. At the same time, this array would allow the early detection of diseases, verify parents and detect those traits that are of economic importance.

By providing breeders with this information about their horses, they will be able to better predict progeny results, thus shortening generational intervals. These results will have direct economic benefits for them by allowing breeders have better greater control of their herds.
